Grading system

Final grade = Recap+AE+Exam+MVP+bonus = 105% max

  • Recap – 3%*3 = 9%
  • Academic essay (AE) – 8%*3 = 24%
  • Exam – 33%
  • MVP – 25%
  • Bonus – 0.5% per seminar/lecture – 1% per week*14 = 14%

Retake principles: The 1st retake has no peculiarities and is conducted in accordance with Regulations for Interim and Ongoing Assessments of Students. The 2nd retake is Oral Exam for the whole course.

Recap: Written assignment

Amount of controls: 3

Description: At the end of every topic (every 3-4 lectures) 1-2 open questions will be posed (based on materials of previous lecture). 3 Recaps in total. Students are expected to give written answers.

Academic essay (Homework)

Amount of controls: 3

Description: Mini academic essay (250-400 words). Topics announced 2 weeks in advance (include books reviews and more broad questions about learning material). If plagiarism is detected, the assessment element will be assigned a score of "0". If the student is suspected of preparing the task not on his own, the teacher has the right to initiate additional verification or defense of this particular assessment element. Then such any assessment element will be graded based on the additional verification or the defense.

Exam: In-class assignment

Description: A written examination is held past Module 2. Students may not consult any sources during the exam. Each question is graded with either 0-10 point, and the entire exam = the sum of points given for questions

MVP of product: Project

Description: Group activity throughout the course. Students are expected to launch a working prototype of a product of their choice. Every month a group expected to produce a list of deliverables to show their progress. At the end of the course they will present their final results to a committee of stakeholders who will rate products and distribute final marks for the group project.

Bonus activities: Activity

Description: Asking thoughtful questions and giving profound answers during lectures and seminars

Deadline policy

If you send your essay/MVP deliverables after indicated deadline:

  • 50% fine in first 24 hours
  • 70% fine in next 3 days
  • 100% fine afterwards

If something extraordinary happened – you should email the lecturer at least 24 hour BEFORE the deadline and indicate WHEN exactly you provide the materials (and still they will be with at least 50% discount)
