Grading system

The academic year is divided into 4 modules. At the end of the second and fourth modules the students pass a written exam (E). During the year students must also complete weekly home assignments. Professors and assistants can ask students to present their written solutions orally. Quizzes are held regularly in classes. Solving specific problems marked by the lecturer or class teachers, students may receive bonus points which influence the final term grade. This influence is expected not to exceed 10% of the grade. Here is the rule that defines the grade of each term:

R1 = roundoff(min{0.2*H1+0.2*Q1+0.25*M1+0.35*E1+B1, 10}), where:

  • R1 is the final mark for the first half of the course (published in the end of December)
  • H is the average of all grades (from 0 to 10) for all regular weekly home assignments
  • Q is the average of 70% your best grades (from 0 to 10) for regular weekly quizzes. Quizzes can be done during the seminar only and cannot be performed at any different time.
  • E is the exam grade (from 0 to 10).
  • M is the midterm grade (from 0 to 10).
  • B is the total bonus; received only for the problems marked with ★ at each homework.

R2 = roundoff(min{0.2*H2+0.2*Q2+0.25*M2+0.35*E2+B2, 10}), which is the final mark for the second half published in June.

Final course grade: FCG = 0.4 ∗ R1 + 0.6 ∗ R2
